History
Before the announcement
Many videos and various messages about changes in the next generation iPhone and its name (it was believed that Apple will release iPhone 5 ) wandered around the Internet for a long time until the day of the announcement. After it became known that Apple will not release the iPhone 5 , but instead introduced the iPhone 4S, many were disappointed. Careful research of the device shows that its innovations are technologically significant. [8] The day after the start of sales, one of the founders of Apple, Steve Jobs , passed away.
Announce
Without radical changes and few new features, the iPhone 4S was not able to impress some critics. Despite everything, Apple fans hoped to find out something about the iPhone 5. Problems
Since the start of sales of the new iPhone 4S, which were simultaneously accompanied by the release of the new version of iOS (operating system) under the index 5.0, numerous serious problems have been identified by numerous users:
- there is no sound with an outgoing call . The most common failure in the iPhone 4s, as of 12/07/2011, there were no official comments from Apple. It is expressed in the inability to hear the ringing tone and the voice of the interlocutor with an outgoing call, in 10-50% of cases. It occurs only when using the regular “phone” application, it is not detected when using other programs of similar purpose (for example, SIP-clients). There are no SIP cards in Russia. They are made to order abroad. The measures recommended by Apple service centers (resetting the phone, replacing the SIM card, and any other) do not help. The iPhone 4S only works on SIP cards. A temporary solution to the problem - short-term switching the phone to the speakerphone and back at the time of the failure - helps in 100% of cases. According to some reports, this failure also occurs on devices of the previous generation after installing iOS 5.0 or 5.0.1. According to unconfirmed reports of iOS 5.1 beta testers, this failure does not occur. - fast battery drain . According to user reviews, the normal battery consumption of the iPhone 4s with the services turned on (geolocation, PUSH messages, etc.) is 2 hours in normal mode. Battery charge takes 8 hours. Obviously, this is due to the non-optimal operation of some programs, since there have been cases of eliminating the problem by completely resetting the device and restoring it to the “new device” state. This problem was officially recognized by Apple, and is fixed in update 5.1.
- autofocus does not work . As in the iPhone 4, in some cases, the camera stopped focusing both automatically and when trying to focus on a specific point. According to official data, this problem was caused by the fact that the protective “bumper” worn on the iPhone interfered with the movement of the lenses. However, there were cases when the focus did not work even without a bumper on.
- Previously, it was not possible to connect the phone via an internal modem to the Internet via a computer’s USB cable. This artificial limitation is due to the fact that there is Wi-Fi, and developers believe that Wi-Fi is everywhere. Now there is such an opportunity (on 2014-02-23). In order for the computer to be able to connect to the Internet through the internal modem, iPhone 4s must be installed on the iTunes computer. After that, the modem works properly.
Design
The iPhone 4S has retained many of the design features of the iPhone 4 . The front and back are flat, the screen is covered with glass. Cameras on the back and front of the case, the case itself is made of stainless steel with metal buttons.
