Efendiyev, Elchin Ilyas oglu

Born on May 13, 1943 in Baku . In 1960, he graduated from high school there. In 1965 he graduated from the philological faculty of BSU . In 1968 he became a graduate student in the theory of literature at the Institute of Literature named after Nizami of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.

He defended his PhD thesis on the theme “The artistic prose of Azerbaijan in literary criticism”, and his doctoral thesis on the topic “Problems of history and modern times in literature” ^[3] .

The father is the national writer of Azerbaijan Ilyas Efendiyev . Brother - Timuchin Efendiyev. The wife of Nushab Efendiyev is a musician. Three daughters: Gunay - a diplomat, Umai - a lawyer, Aysu - a student of journalism.

In 1959 , when Elchin was 16 years old, his first story was published in the newspaper “Youth of Azerbaijan”. Elchin's first book, One of a Thousand Nights, was published in 1965 ^[4] .

Elchin's books are published in many countries of the world, translated into more than 20 languages, and the total circulation reached 5 million books during publications ^[3] . Baladadas First Love was the first book of the writer, published in Russian.

According to Elchin's scenarios, several feature films and one cartoon were shot: Baladadash's First Love (one of the short stories in The Pages of Life, 1974), Backstab (1977), I Will Come Back (1980), Silver Van ”(1982),“ Summer Season ”(1985),“ And I Saw Umai Dream ”(1985, cartoon),“ Night Without an Edge ”(1989),“ National Bomb ”(2004),“ Fate of the Sovereign ”(2008 ) ^{[5] [6]} .

All their works are signed by Elchin.

Elchin Efendiyev is a chairman of a number of state commissions, a member of authoritative Azerbaijani and international cultural societies and associations ^[7] . He was a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the AzSSR .

Currently, he is the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan ^[8] , as well as the Chairman of the Vatan Society - the Society for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries ^[3] .

Since July 11, 2011, he has been a member of the state commission on the “National Strategy for the Development of Education in Azerbaijan for 2011–2012” ^[9] .
