History

The district was formed on December 30, 1869 through the reorganization of the former Kumyk district of the Terek region.

Since the late 1890s, the planar part of the district has become the territory of colonization and economic development of migrants from the central provinces of the Russian Empire. During this period, many Russian, Ukrainian, German, Moldavian villages, colonies, farms and economies were formed (see German colonies in Dagestan , Terek Mennonite colonies , Settlements founded by Russians in Dagestan )

From 1918 to 1921 it was part of the Terek Territory.

By a decree of the All-Russian Central Executive Committee of January 20, 1921, the district was transferred to the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic .

According to the draft of the new regionalization dated November 22, 1928, approved by the 4th session of the Central Executive Committee of the DASSR, the district was abolished, and its territory was divided into Khasavyurt , Babayurt and Kazbekov cantons.

Population

Already in the late 70s, the entire southern part of the Khasavyurt district, from Gerzel aul to Andirey, was settled by Chechens. From 1870 to 1877, the number of Chechens in the region as a result of resettlement increased from 5,912 Akhovites to 14 thousand Chechens and continued to increase to 18,128 in 1897, catching up with the Kumyks.
