Wilhelm Gansovich Grube ( German: Wilhelm Grube ; August 17, 1855 , St. Petersburg - July 2, 1908 , Berlin ) is a learned philologist and ethnographer of a wide profile, known for his contribution to sinology and Tungus-Manchu studies . One of the first researchers of the Nanai and Nivkh languages , the author of the first work on the decoding of the Jurchen letters . He studied at St. Petersburg and Leipzig universities with the famous orientalists of his time Vasilyev V.P. , Shifner A.A., Georg von Gabelenets .
