MTR Corporation (Mass Transit Railway Corporation or 地下 鐵路 公司) is the operator of the Hong Kong Railway System (MTR), which includes metro , trains and trams. Also, MTR Corporation is engaged in construction, real estate, bus transportation, has contracts for the operation of railway public transport in London , Stockholm , Melbourne , Beijing , Shenzhen and Hangzhou [2] .

History
The company was founded in 1975 by the Hong Kong government for the development and operation of rail public transport, in 2000 it has been privatized and has since been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (the Hong Kong government continues to control 76% of the shares of MTR Corporation, and the remaining 24% of the shares are owned by private investors).
In 2007, the MTR Corporation took over the operation of the railway network of another state-owned company in Hong Kong - Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation, in fact absorbing the latter. After that, the combined company was named 香港 鐵路 有限公司 (which means Hong Kong Railway Corporation Limited in English), but the English equivalent of the name remained the same - MTR Corporation. As of March 2011, 21 thousand people worked in the MTR Corporation, the market value of the corporation was more than 21.5 billion dollars, and sales - 3.8 billion dollars.

Prior to its merger in 2007, MTR Corporation operated the Kwun Tong Line, Tsuen Wan Line, Island Line, Airport Express, Tung Chung Line, Tsueng Kwan O Line and Disneyland Resort Line, and KCR Corporation operated the East Rail Line, Light Rail, West Rail Line and Ma On Shan Line.
MTR Properties
The company develops land near railway stations and manages real estate of MTR Corporation, especially large retail, residential and office complexes (real estate income exceeds income from transportation). Among the main assets are LOHAS Park , Metro Town , Sorrento , Harborside , The Arch , Festival City , Park Central .
MTR Bus
The company operates bus routes in the New Territories and in Kowloon , which complement the MTR Corporation railway lines.
