Biography

Born March 13, 1846. He was educated in the Orenburg Cadet Corps and the Nikolaev Engineering School . It was released on August 8, 1866 as a second lieutenant in the Orenburg sapper company.

He served in the Turkestan troops and took part in campaigns against the Kokand and Bukhara khanates. May 1, 1868 for military distinction against the Bukhara people was promoted to lieutenant , and on August 30, 1869 he was awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree

 In retaliation for the distinction made during the defense of the citadel of Samarkand from June 2 to 8, 1868, where, when the Bukhara gates burned down, despite strong enemy fire, he managed to build blockages with his sappers for the guns, which prevented the enemy from breaking into the citadel . 

October 10, 1869 for numerous military differences in the campaign of 1868 he was promoted to headquarters captains [1] . In the same 1869 he was sent to St. Petersburg , where he was admitted to the Nikolaev Engineering Academy . It was released in the year 1870.

Continuing his service in the engineering forces, Cherkasov was promoted to captain on April 8, 1873, and lieutenant colonel on August 30, 1879. On April 4, 1880 he was appointed chief of staff of the 1st combat engineer brigade and on August 30, 1882 he received the rank of colonel .

On April 9, 1887, he was appointed head of the Ochakov serf engineering board, and on February 10, 1891, he was transferred to the same position in Kronstadt . August 30, 1892 promoted to major general .

He died in Kronstadt on February 4, 1894, was buried in St. Petersburg at the Nikolsky cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra .
