An image of the distant future, the story of Mars echoes the famous anti-utopia “ We ” by Evgeny Zamyatin (1920; published in 1924). In particular, in the story, the idea of the impossibility of personal happiness and love in a strictly regulated totalitarian socialist society is held. But if the state described by Zamyatin is abstract, then in the unified, “nullified” (people also have personal numbers here) Mars’s world, Russia is quite distinctly mentioned as part of a certain world community - the Council of the World Mind . In this world, everything is subject to control - thoughts, feelings, birth and death.

Quote from the story:

The supreme administration of the Great Republic was concentrated in the hands of the Council of the World Mind, which, having built life on completely new principles, achieved complete harmony between the internal experiences and external actions of mankind. Since the discovery of the ultra-Ramse rays, which made it possible to photograph the innermost thoughts, all the impulses of the subconscious "I" of each individual were taken under the strictest control ... Criminals no longer existed, since crimes were revealed before they were committed, and humanity freed from all evil and criminal, drunk with brotherly love, enthusiastically surrendered to fruitful work in the framework of self-improvement ... After several generations, people have reached the peak of prosperity.
