Etymology

The scientific name of the group is Loricata, translated from Latin means armor.

Previously, this epithet was used as a scientific name for a detachment of crocodiles , but after some changes in the systematics of the detachment, it was assigned the scientific name Crocodilia, and the name Loricata remained unused. Later, in his research, the American paleontologist Nesbitt used it to designate a group related to the poposaurs ( Poposaurus ) and combining crocodile-like reptiles (Crocodylomorpha) and some other fossil species close to them [1] .
