Sabert ( Eng. Sæberht ) - king of Essex in the years 604-616. In 604, Archbishop Augustine sent his priest Mellitus to baptize the people of Essex . Mellitus became bishop of London , at the same time St. Paul's Cathedral was built. Sabert was the first to be baptized in Essex. In 2003, the tomb of Sabert was discovered in Prittwell. The surviving fragments of the shroud with crosses embroidered on it confirm the version of the adoption of Christianity by Sabert. In 616, Sabert died, and his possessions were divided between his sons.
