Marcus Agius ( born Marcus Ambrose Paul Agius ; born July 22, 1946 ) [1] is a British financier and businessman, one of the prominent representatives of the Rothschild dynasty , currently chairman of the board of directors of the Barclays financial group. He is also a non-executive director of the new BBC board.
Biography
Educated at St George's College, Weybridge , MA in mechanics and economics at Trinity Hall, Cambridge [2] , MBA at Harvard Business School . [2]
Marcus has served as Barclays' non-executive director since September 1, 2006, replacing Matthew Barrett as chairman on January 1, 2007. The current annual salary is £ 750,000. [3] Prior to that, he was chairman of the London branch of Lazard Investment Bank and non-executive director of BAA Limited .
Married to Catherine Rothschild (b. 1949), daughter of the financier (1916-2009). Has two children.
