A member of the Christian Democratic Party since 1974 , he served as deputy party secretary from 1979 to 1985, then as general secretary until 1987 and chairman of the party’s Central Council in 2002.
From 1978 to 2008, he was elected a member of the Grand General Council (Parliament of San Marino).
From July 26, 1986 to May 20, 2002, he served as Secretary of State (Minister) for Foreign and Political Affairs of San Marino . From May 10 to November 6, 1990, he was Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe .
On December 3, 2008, Gatti was appointed Secretary of State for Finance and Budget [1] .
