History
For the first time, the settlement was mentioned in the Rumyantsev inventory of Little Russia, as a water “mlyn” [4] , located on the Smosh river “seven miles from Parafievka ” and previously owned by clerk Vladislavich Rodionov and a Cossack from Ivanitsa Prochay, who later sold it to the Nezhin Greek living in Ivanitsa Fedor Bulgaria. The latter founded a farm on this site, which, in turn, in 1742 sold “the court of His Imperial Majesty the singer Fedor Ivanovich Kachenovsky” for 890 rubles. [5]
Located next to the Smosh River, another farm owned by another Nezhin Greek Foma Machemach and transferred to his five daughters after his death, was also sold in 1744 to Fyodor Ivanovich Kachenovsky, a nobleman and gentry for 1690 rubles. The farm was named Kachanovka by the name of this owner. [5]
In 1749, when Fyodor Kachenovsky was granted richer “sweeps,” he sold Kachanovka to his brother, second-major Mikhail Kachenovsky, obliging him to give a tenth of the grinding from the water mills to St. Nicholas Paraffius Church, and the other to the hospital for the poor. [5]
In 1771, on behalf of Empress Catherine II , the farmsteads Parafievka and Kachanovka were bought into the treasury and in December of the same year donated to the Russian commander Count Peter Alksandrovich Rumyantsev-Zadunaysky [6] who decided to create one of the residences of the president of the Little Russian College and his new estate Governor-General of Little Russia . [7]
From that moment began the history of the Kachanovsky estate , which for one and a half centuries was owned by the Rumyantsev , Tarnovsky and Kharitonenko families and which became one of the cultural centers in the Chernihiv region.
During the Soviet era, the estate housed an orphanage, a sanatorium and other medical institutions (resort area), a museum.
