Saitama [1] ( 埼 玉 県 Saitama-ken ) is a prefecture located in the Kanto area of Honshu Island, Japan . The prefecture has an area of 3,798.08 km² [2] , a population of 7,235,651 people (August 1, 2014) [3] , a population density of 1905.08 people / km². The administrative center is the city of Saitama .

Symbols
The emblem and flag of the prefecture were introduced on September 1, 1964 [4] . The prefecture’s anthem was approved on September 21, 1965 [5] .
On November 5, 1971, Siebold's primrose was chosen as the flower of the prefecture, sawt-sawed tree (September 5, 1966) as a tree, and the ringed dove (November 3, 1965) as a tree. The prefecture's fish is a nine-spined stickleback (November 14, 1991), and the neozephyrus japonicus (November 14, 1991) was chosen as a butterfly ( 4) .
