He participated in the national team of Belarus on 3 boards, which won the All-Union Olympics for schoolchildren in Tashkent in 1978. [1] While serving in the Soviet Army, he lived in Riga and continued his chess career in Latvia. In 1982 he became the champion of Latvia among young men. Six times in a row he played in the finals of the Latvian Chess Championship : 1983, [2] 1984, [3] 1985, [4] 1986, [5] 1987, [6] 1988. [7] The biggest success was achieved in 1985, when Lutsko shared 3-4 place, only half a point behind the winner. He also played for the youth national team of Latvia in 1982 at the All-Union Youth Games in Leningrad, [8] and for the national team of Latvia at the Spartakiad of the Peoples of the USSR in Minsk. [9]
