Eri , also Eri-Canal [1] ( English Erie Canal ) - the channel in the state of New York ( USA ) connecting the Great Lakes system with the Atlantic Ocean through the Hudson River . The length of the canal from the city of Buffalo on Lake Erie to the city of Kohos at the confluence of the Mohok River and the Hudson River included in the canal is over 540 km. Width - about 50 m.

The canal was built in 1817 - 1825 , after which it was repeatedly reconstructed. In the mid- 19th century, it played a crucial role in the development of the interior of the United States . Thus, a decrease in travel time led to an increase in trade between the states of the Midwest and the state of New York , which, inter alia, led to a drop in food prices in New York , as a result of which the population of the city doubled in 10 years.
