Deadhorse ( Eng. Deadhorse - “Dead Horse”) is a non - municipal territory in the North Slope County, Alaska , USA , located along the northern slope of Alaska , near the Arctic Ocean . The city consists mainly of a complex of buildings for workers and companies that work in the nearby Pradho Bay oil fields. Deadhorse is accessible via the Dalton Motorway from Fairbanks or through Deadhorse Airport . Available for limited tourist use .

The resident population varies from 25 to 50 people. The number of temporary residents employed by various local firms may exceed 3,000. [1] [2]

Companies operating in Deadhorse are engaged in the development of the nearest Pradkho Bay oil field and the transportation of oil through the Transalyaskinsky oil pipeline (TAN) to Valdiz , located on the coast of Prince Wilhelm Strait . The facilities at Deadhorse are built entirely on artificial cushions made of gravel and usually consist of prefabricated modules delivered there by barges or by air.

Deadhorse is featured in the third and fourth seasons of the trucker ’s Ice Route reality show , shown on the History Channel .
