Story
Columbia University professor Gregory Larkin places an ad in a newspaper in the dating section. By coincidence, thanks to this announcement, he gets acquainted with Rose Morgan, a professor of literature at the same university, who still lives in the same apartment with the powerful mother Hannah. Convinced that all the problems in family life stem from sex, Gregory Larkin offers Rose to marry him, thereby creating a relationship based not on passion, but on intellectual intimacy. The prospect of ending the life of an old maid in the company of an elderly mother seems to Rose to be much worse than marriage on these conditions, and she agrees.
However, over time, she begins to feel the need for love, which Gregory can not decide. Rose convinces herself that her husband’s reluctance is caused by her unattractiveness. And when her husband goes on a long tour with a course of lectures, she decides to transform herself by completing an accelerated self-improvement course. Upon arrival, Gregory Rose lost weight, changed her hairstyle and changed her wardrobe, appearing in front of him in a completely new way. But Gregory is not happy with such a change of spouse, and they have to go through separation in order to realize what feelings actually connect them.
