Religion in the Maldives is a combination of religious beliefs, the freedom of which is enshrined in the Constitution of the country for citizens of the Republic of Maldives .
The Council on Religious Affairs of the Maldives, in a statement published on September 27, 2011 by the presidential administration in the official state media, outlawed the preaching of all religions in the country except Islam . However, the provisions of the new regulation prohibit hatred of people of other faiths, different from Muslims and wearing religious symbols other than Islamic ones [1] .
Islam
By religion, the inhabitants of the Maldives belong to the Sunnis , the largest and most traditional Islamic movement. Prayers are held five times a day (at dawn, before noon, at noon, at sunset and after dark) in all mosques that are necessarily in every village on the island.
According to the new decree of September 27, 2011 , consisting of 12 provisions, Islamic preachers must have the appropriate education received at a college, university or training center approved by the ministry. [one]
Christianity
According to the results of a study by the international charitable Christian organization “ Open Doors ” for 2012 , the Maldives took 6th place in the list of countries where Christian rights are most often oppressed [2] .
