Bad good man

The plot of the film is based on the confrontation of two prominent personalities - Laevsky ( Oleg Dal ) and von Koren ( Vladimir Vysotsky ). Each of them has its own principles, its own life position.

For von Koren, Laevsky personifies human vices. Laevsky considers von Koren a man who is capable of committing cruel acts for the sake of abstract abstract ideals up to the physical elimination of people unnecessary for the new order. Dr. Samoilenko is a friend of the main characters of the same opinion about von Koren. One day, von Koren makes an insulting remark to Laevsky about his "stalemate." Laevsky inflicts a retaliation on von Koren. Von Koren accepts his “challenge to a duel ” (the phrase “challenge” was said simply for “a red word”). Laevsky agrees to fight, because he hates von Koren.

The scene of the duel itself is shown in a caricature: neither the duelists, nor their seconds really know how it should go, what are the rules, they try to recall the descriptions of the classics. Von Koren tells one of his friends in advance how the duel will go and turns out to be almost right: Laevsky shoots in the air. Von Koren's hand trembled at the moment of the shot due to a sudden cry of a frightened deacon and he missed.

The death that happened next changes Laevsky greatly - he works a lot, trying to repay his debts over several years. Instead of entertaining social life, his wife begins to housekeeping, but even these changes do not cause von Koren much optimism or joy.

I invited Vysotsky to the picture "Bad Good Man", where I was the second director. He, like other actors, was dressed in costumes. Kheifits carefully examined them and told the costume designer: “Lily, you know, everything suits me, just let us agree this way: on this frock coat he always has the third button half torn, it will hang on one thread.” It was not a trick, because his character is a bachelor, it is clear why he has a button hanging. Volodya told me: “Zhenya, you know, I will always be filming with Heifitz, no matter what he offers me!”

It seems strange sounds! I’m sure that the distributors on the posters will add the letter “I” - “Bad and Good”, as if we are talking about two different people. But the point is that it is about one thing. We can do without the connecting “AND”.

• The directorial development of the episode “Passage of Nadezhda Fedorovna and bailiff Kirilin to the date house”:

Successfully found on the outskirts of Yalta an old Tatar house with an open gallery and staircase. This will be the “date house” of Muridov. It is important prosaism, decline, the destruction of the exotic. Dirty, dilapidated house. Below, in the gallery, the whole household of Muridov: kitchen, barbecue, chickens, old utensils, children play, something is fried in a pan. Reminds a communal apartment. This is a brothel, but of the lowest rank, on the scale of a “family business”.

• Filming began on 5.VII.1972 and continued until the end of the year. The film was shot in Yevpatoria and in one episode - in Saki and Yalta ^[5] .
