History
The first wooden church of Archdeacon Stephen in Ugljanets was built in 1645 [1] with donations from parishioners. In 1868 [2] with the money of the local landowner Kryzhev in place of the old one, a stone church with the same name was built. The church was located in the center of the village, and the family estate of the landowner was nearby. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Uglian church was closed. From the 1930s to the 1990s, it was used as a warehouse, a club. In 1990, the temple was transferred to the diocese. [3]
Architecture
The church is made of bricks. The architectural solution is typical of many church buildings in the village of that time. A semicircular apse and a rectangular refectory are attached to the high four of the temple part. From the western part of the church building is completed by a high bell tower, consisting of four tiers. The bell tower is completed with a roof-dome and crowned with a church spire. The decorative facade of the temple is made using elements of classicism.
Current status
Currently, Stephen’s Church by the decision of the administration of the Voronezh region N 850 of 08/14/95 is an object of historical and cultural heritage of regional significance. [four]
