History

During the topographic expedition of 1857, on the right bank of the Kalar River, the lieutenant of the corps of topographers A.F. Usoltsev first discovered the ridge and went through it with a description. He also examined the chain of rocky peaks of the ridge. He also found that its approximate length is more than 350 kilometers with the highest points in the upper river, it is articulated with the Udokan ridge [1] .

Description

The length of the ridge is about 400 km, the width is from 30 to 50 km. The prevailing heights are 1800–2200 m. The highest peak is the Rocky Golets (2519 m).

The ridge is composed of granites and metamorphosed rocks. Flat peaks prevail in the west, alpine peaks in the east. There are small glaciers and other traces of extensive ancient glaciation : trough valleys, glacial carts, and moraine ridges. The main landscapes are mountain taiga , pre-alpine woodlands, char. There are deposits of copper ores .

On the slopes of the ridge, larch taiga grows, on tops of stone collapses and mountain tundra . After laying the BAM route, which crosses the ridge, it has become more accessible for tourism .

The southwestern part of the ridge, located in the lower right bank of the Kalar River, is called the Nizhnekalarsky ridge [2] .
