Ship history

Ship number 480 was built at the shipyard Kvaerner Masa Yards AB in Finland. The construction dock was flooded on October 21, 1989 and on April 18, 1991, the vessel was handed over to the customer. Originally, the ship was called Ecstasy and Kathie Lee Gifford became its godmother. Initially, the ship was used for cruises in the Caribbean, and since 2000 under the flag of Panama. After the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the ship served as shelter for refugees and rescuers for six months. From September 19 to October 17, 2009, the ship was upgraded as part of the Evolution of Fun program. From September 22, 2011, the base port of the vessel is New Orleans .

Incidents

  • On July 20, 1998, after 5:00 pm, Ecstasy , on its way to Key West with 2,565 passengers and 916 crew members, started a fire in the kitchen in the dishwasher. Fire penetrated the anchor deck through the air-conditioning ducts, causing the ropes to catch fire and heavy smoke was generated. When the ship reached the raid in Miami , the ship became uncontrollable, as both the car and the steering were out of order. The captain summoned several more ships to help out, and the vessel was extinguished and towed by six tugboats. The fire was extinguished only at 21:09. About 60 passengers received light smoke poisoning. Repair cost $ 17 million. [2]
  • July 1, 2007, jumping from the deck of Carnival Ecstasy , committed suicide 18-year-old Hispanic David Ritcheson, who had fallen victim to right-wing violence in the United States a year before. [3] .
  • On April 21, 2010 (around 12:55 hours local time), the vessel made a maneuver in order to evade an object in the water near the Yucatan Peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico . As a result of the sharp maneuver, the vessel tilted by 12 ° and 60 passengers and one crew member was injured. Later it turned out that this object turned out to be a flooded buoy displaced from its position and unidentified by a radar. [four]
