“The Genghis Khan” is the story of the Russian Soviet writer Ivan Novokshonov (1896–1943), which is considered to be his main book [1] .

Creation History
The first version of the story was written in the 1920s, the second version - in 1937 [2] . According to other sources [3] , work on the story continued from 1926 to 1933 .
In 1928, the director Vsevolod Pudovkin based on the story set the film “The Descendant of Genghis Khan ” (script by I. Novokshonov and O. Brik ). The film was successfully shown in Europe - in England, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, France and in other countries. In 1935, the film received the prize of the First Moscow International Film Festival .
The story was first published only in 1965 in the Irkutsk almanac " Angara " (No. 3).
In 1966, the story was published as a separate book in Moscow by the Sovetsky Pisatel publishing house, after which it withstood several reprints in Irkutsk , Novosibirsk and Ulan-Ude with a total circulation of 330,000 copies. [four]
The plot of the story
The main character of the story Dorzhi, unable to bear the brunt of the monastic training, escapes from the datsan, becomes a farm laborer for some time, then enters the partisan detachment of Nestor Kalandarishvili .
After the battle, he is captured by the White Guards. Dorzhi wears a father’s gift on his neck - an amulet, in which a document is sewn up, confirming that he is a direct descendant of Genghis Khan. The White Guards want to make Dorzhi the puppet ruler of Mongolia.
He does not succumb to the temptations of easy living, escapes from captivity and returns to his squad.
Style of the story
The story is full of ethnographic material. The writer shows how the Mongol sets up a yurt, makes tea, what customs he observes at the birth of a child, how he buries the dead, what are the relationships within his family, what is the nature of beliefs. The story describes the wedding ceremony and the picture of the religious festival of Tsam .
