In Hesiod, it is named in the introduction to the poem [8] , but not in the list of titanides; she is ranked among him in the oceans as the daughter of the Ocean and Thephis (Hesiod. Theog. 353); or she is the daughter of Gaia and Uranus (titanide, according to the Orphics [9] ) or Ether [10] (it can be noted that in Dodon Zeus was revered among other things as the lord of the ether [11] , see below).

In Dodon there was a cult of Dione as the wife of Zeus [12] , she was worshiped along with him throughout Epirus , where Dodon was located [13] . She was also considered (according to Homer ) the lover of Zeus and the mother of Aphrodite ( Hom. Il .; Others) [14] [10] [15] [16] . At Homer, she abides on Olympus and helps her daughter Aphrodite [17] . Among other goddesses, she was present at the birth of Apollo and Artemis on Delos (Homeric hymns) [10] .

Also called the mother of Dionysus [10] .

Her altar in Oykunt ( Kariya ) [18] .

Presumably - the oldest pre-Greek goddess of the earth. In later mythology was identified with the Hero [15] .

In honor of Dione, the asteroid (106) of Dion , discovered in 1868, as well as the satellite of Saturn Dion, is named .
