History

The monastery was founded in the second quarter of the XVII century. The charter of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich of 1660 states that for the first time the wooden St. Nicholas Church was named in the non-preserved and undated charter of Tsar John IV Vasilyevich . According to the scribal book of 1628, the temple in 1618/19, burned " Cherkasy " - Ukrainian Cossacks and Russian "thieves." The monastery remained wooden until the last quarter of the 17th century, after which intensive stone construction began there [1] .

The main building of the monastery is the Trinity Cathedral , founded in 1681. Construction continued until 1689. All other buildings on the territory of the monastery are adjacent to the stone wall.

In the northern part of the monastery in 1710 a two-story church of St. John Climacus was built. Construction ended in 1716.

In the XVIII century, the monastery was surrounded by a stone fence with towers in the corners. The main gate was in the east wall. Above the gate was built a church in honor of the Protection of the Virgin. This is a 17th century classical gate church with a small dome and modest decoration of facades.

Nearby was the building with monks cells.

The Holy Trinity Nikolsky Monastery was closed in 1920.

In 1993, monastic life was resumed in Nikolsky Monastery.
