History

After the foundation of the Yenisei diocese in 1861, Bishop Nicodemus (Kazantsev) applied to the Holy Synod with a request to open a theological seminary in Krasnoyarsk. The answer was negative: “To postpone the opening of the seminary until the time when sufficient means are meant”. [one]

The first building was opened in 1884. [2]

Almost thirty years later, when the necessary funds were found, at the request of Bishop Akakiy (Zaklinsky), the opening of the seminary was approved on April 2, 1894 by Emperor Alexander III , and on September 4, 1895, in three two-story wooden houses on a plot of land previously owned by the gold miner Nikita Fedorovich Myasnikov began her classes at the Krasnoyarsk Seminary. The 25th diocesan congress of the clergy that took place thereafter elected a commission for the construction of a new seminary building. [1] [3]

In 1895, the city council of Krasnoyarsk transferred a plot on the banks of the Yenisei beyond the city garden to the Krasnoyarsk spiritual board to build the building of the Krasnoyarsk Theological Seminary [1] .

In 1896-1899, design was carried out. The author of the project was the civil architect Evgeny Lvovich Morozov, and the construction of the Yenisei provincial architect Alexander Alexandrovich Folbaum led the construction. On June 11, 1900, the site was consecrated, and in November construction work began (corner of Sadovaya Street (Bograd St.) and Bishop's Lane (Gorky St.), which lasted until 1903 [1]

The three-story building of the Krasnoyarsk Theological Seminary was built of brick in the old Russian (pre-Petrine) style - eclecticism , on a high basement . The composition of the building is classically constructed: two protruding large risalits. The eastern risalit is marked by a stone entrance with a low tent , crowned with an onion dome . To the left of the building was adjacent the Alexander Nevsky House Church with a tent topped with a wrought-iron openwork lattice and a small tent crowned with an onion cupola with a cross.

CDS provided a high level of theological and cultural education [3] . In 1912, 126 students studied here. [one]

In 1914, a one-domed brick church in the pseudo-Russian style was built at the seminary, adjoining the three-story seminary building from the east and consecrated in honor of Archangel Michael . [1] [3] After the revolutionary events of 1917, the domes of this church were dismantled.

In 1917 - 1920, the central bureau of the Krasnoyarsk trade unions was located in the building.

In July 1919, the premises of the theological seminary were placed at the disposal of the Kolchak army , and the seminary itself moved to the Diocesan Women's School, where it remained until its closure in 1920. [1] [3]

In 1920, the former seminary building was occupied by a garrison military hospital, which moved here from the Plaza-Front Square. [one]

Building today

The building is located at the intersection of Bograd streets (house 83) and Gorky (house 2). In 1985, a project was prepared for the restoration and reconstruction of the building, followed by its transfer to the Krasnoyarsk State Art Museum named after Surikov . For the garrison hospital, a building was being built in the area of Vilsky Street. However, in subsequent years, the construction was suspended, and then the hospital building - due to the cessation of funding - was reconstructed and sold to private residential apartments. Both the hospital and the museum remained in the old adapted rooms. As part of the military reform in Russia, branch No. 10 of the federal budget institution “354 District Military Clinical Hospital” of the Russian Ministry of Defense was about to be abolished. The fate of the building has not been determined for a long time.

Metropolitan Panteleimon visited the premises of the former house church in the name of Archangel Michael. The issues of installing the iconostasis in the former place of the altar and performing prayers in part were discussed. Vladyka Panteleimon donated the icon of the Archangel Michael to the garrison military hospital [4] .

In March 2012, information appeared that the building could be returned to the Russian Orthodox Church in the next two to three years.
