Biography
Born on March 8, 1921 in the village of Checheliyevka [1] in a peasant family. Ukrainian .
After graduating from the 7 classes and the Dnipropetrovsk industrial technical school, he worked at a metallurgical plant in the city of Dneprodzerzhinsk, Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine. He graduated from the flying club.
In the Red Army drafted in 1940 . In 1941 he graduated from the Kachin military aviation school of pilots. On the fronts of the Great Patriotic War since July 1941. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU since 1942 .
On April 20, 1943, in an air battle over the Blue Line , a pilot shot down two German Junkers, but he himself was shot down. Leaving the burning plane, he landed on a parachute at the location of the Soviet troops. By May 1943, the senior pilot of the 298th Fighter Aviation Regiment, Captain Vasily Drygin, made 261 combat sorties, personally shot down 12 enemy aircraft in 5 air battles and 5 in the group.
During the war years, the Dragin made 320 successful combat missions and personally shot down 17 enemy aircraft and 8 in the group [2] . In an air battle on August 23, 1943, for the liberation of Don land and Donbass from German guard troops, Major V. M. Drygin was shot down and seriously wounded in the head. He was sent for treatment at a specialized hospital. He did not return to the front, after healing he was sent to study at the academy.
After the war, he continued to serve in the USSR Air Force. In 1946 he graduated from the Air Force Academy, in 1958 - the Military Academy of the General Staff.
Since 1962, Colonel Drygin - in stock, and then retired. He arrived in the city of Rostov-on-Don , where he lived and in 1968 graduated from the Rostov Institute of National Economy . Before leaving for a well-deserved rest, he worked as a dispatcher at the Rostov Aviation Enterprise.
Died September 3, 2009 , buried in Rostov-on-Don [3] .
Awards
- By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated May 24, 1943, for exemplary performance of combat missions of command on the front of the struggle against the German fascist invaders and the courage and heroism shown to Captain Drygin Vasily Mikhailovich awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 997).
- He was also awarded three Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, two Orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, two Orders of the Red Star, and medals.
Interesting Facts
On the eve of the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory, the 84-year-old veteran of the 4th Air Army participated in a campaign flight on the route Rostov-on-Don - Yeisk - Krasnodar - Rostov-on-Don .
