Geography
The area is located in the western part of the state, and occupies 4,559.5 km².
Population
In 2000, 606,000 people lived in the Kuching region. The majority of Kuching residents are Chinese and Malays, which differs from the national composition of other parts of the Sarawak state, which is dominated by indigenous peoples.
