Cesare Rubini ( Italian: Cesare Rubini ; November 2, 1923 , Trieste , Italy - February 8, 2011 , Milan , Italy ) - Italian professional water polo player , basketball player and basketball coach. Champion of the Summer Olympic Games in London in water polo (1948). Biography

As part of the national water polo team of Italy, he won the “gold” at the Olympic Games in London (1948), four years later in Helsinki (1952) he won a bronze medal. In 2000, he was inducted into the World Swimming Hall of Fame.

He consistently engaged in professional basketball as a player and as a coach. In 1948-1957 he played for the team of Series A Olympia Milan , and in 1957-1973 he coached his own team. Under his leadership, Olympia:

  • 9 times became the champion of Italy (1958-1960, 1962-1963, 1965-1967 and 1972), as well as 6 times during his playing career (1950-1954 and 1957),
  • Won the Champions Cup : 1966 ,
  • I won the Cup Winners Cup : 1971 and 1972 .

In 1946, as a basketball player, he won the silver medal at the European Championship in Switzerland . At the Olympic Games in Moscow (1980), as a coach, he led the Italian team to silver medals.

In 1979-2002, he was the founder and first president of the World Basketball Coaches Association. Since 1984 he was a member of the FIBA ​​Executive Committee. In 1994, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame [1] , in 2006 into the Italian Basketball Hall of Fame , and in 2013 into the FIBA ​​Hall of Fame . In 2002 he was awarded the FIBA ​​Order of Merit.
