Story

Far future. The Earth is captured by aliens - Singas, who keep human civilization at a low level of development and do not allow people to unite to fight a common enemy. One of the human reservations on the North American continent , called the East Forest, is inhabited by peaceful rural people. The story begins with the appearance in the East Forest of a strange person with yellow eyes, who does not remember anything and does not even know how to speak. The forest people sheltered him, gave the name Falk and taught his language. The head of the forest community, Zow, having guessed the alien origin, Falk hopes with his help to achieve the liberation of the Earth from the power of the conquerors - the Sings. He persuades Falk to leave their hospitable House, where he lives so happily and even managed to fall in love with Zoe’s daughter, go to the city of Singov - Es Toh and try to find out and fulfill his destiny. Going on this journey, Falk, for a long time moved through the forest, then, having reached the lowland territories, he is captured by the nomadic tribe of Bassnaska where he meets another captive - a girl named Estrella. She helps him plan his escape, and with the onset of heavy snowfall, they manage to escape. After a long time, they reach Es Toch, where it turns out that Estrella is a servant of the Singes and her task was to bring Falk into their hands.

Falk discovers that, as Zove had supposed, he was not an earthling, but a representative of an alien people who flew to Earth with an interplanetary mission. His native planet, Verelles, is a forgotten earth colony, information about which has been lost, and the Verelians are a hybrid race formed as a result of the mixing of descendants of earthly colonists with the indigenous population of Verelles. In evidence, Falk is introduced to his compatriot, a young man named Har Orry, who has the same yellow eyes as his. Har Orry tells Falk that his real name is Agad Romarren and he is the leader and navigator of their expedition. Orry asks him to give the coordinates of their home planet, so that they can return home. He also tries to convince Falk that Singi are not alien invaders, but ordinary earthlings. According to his stories, the Earth did not fall victim to the invasion, but was plunged into the chaos of the civil war. The Sings are trying in every possible way to prove Falk the truth of these stories and offer him to restore his erased memory, however insisting on the inevitability of the loss of his memories of earthly life. Having guessed about the Synges' secret desire to find out the coordinates of his home planet in order to destroy it, Falk nevertheless agrees to restore his memory, hoping to maintain his current consciousness. Despite all the tricks of the Sings, he manages to preserve his earthly memories and combine them in his mind with his real personality. Comparing all the facts known to him by Falk, Romarren was convinced that Singi was indeed an alien conqueror, as Zove told him. Thanks to his trained brain, he managed to resist all their attempts to penetrate his consciousness and kept secret the true name and coordinates of his home planet. Taking advantage of the convenient situation, Falk-Romarren, together with Har Orry and captured Singh-Ken Kenyak, leaves Earth on a stolen starship and returns home.
