The administrative center is the city of Luza .
Geography
The area is 5360 km². In the south it borders with Podosinovsky and Oparinsky districts of the Kirov region, in the east with the Komi Republic , in the north with the Arkhangelsk region , in the west it borders with the Vologda region . The main rivers are Lala , Zalesskaya Lala , Shilyug , Lundanka, Luza .
History
The Luzsky rural region with its center in the city of Luz was formed on February 1, 1963 on the basis of the decision of the plenum of the Central Committee of the CPSU "On the development of the economy of the USSR and the restructuring of the party leadership of the national economy" from November 19 to 23, 1962 as a result of the unification of Lalsky and Podosinovsky districts. In 1965, the Luzsky district was disaggregated with the transfer of part of the territory to the restored Podosinovsky district .
Since January 1, 2006, according to the Law of the Kirov region dated December 7, 2004 No. 284-ZO [4] , 10 municipal units were formed in the district: 2 urban and 8 rural settlements.
The Law of the Kirov region dated July 27, 2007 No. 151-ZO [5] :
- Anikinskoe rural settlement and Lalskoe urban settlement are united in Lalskoe urban settlement with the administrative center in the urban-type settlement of Lalsk, while maintaining the status of settlements;
- The Griboshin rural settlement and the Vymskoe rural settlement are united in the Griboshin rural settlement with the administrative center in the village of Uge.
By the Law of the Kirov region dated April 30, 2009 No. 369-ZO [6] :
- Verkhnelalskoe rural settlement and Lalskoe urban settlement are united in Lalskoe urban settlement with the administrative center in the urban-type settlement of Lalsk ;
- The Kulikovo rural settlement and the Luzskoe urban settlement are combined into the Luzskoye urban settlement with the administrative center in the city of Luz .
By the Law of the Kirov region dated April 28, 2012 No. 141-ZO [7] :
- Lalskoe urban settlement and Uchetskoe rural settlement are united in Lalskoe urban settlement with the administrative center in the urban-type settlement of Lalsk ;
- Luzskoe urban settlement and Khristoforovskoe rural settlement are united in Luzskoe urban settlement with the administrative center in the city of Luz ;
- The Gribosha rural settlement and the Papulovskoye rural settlement are combined into the Papulovskoye rural settlement with the administrative center in the village of Papulov .

Economy
Agriculture, forestry and woodworking industry. The paper mill, founded in 1826 , is located in the village. Factory. Luzsky timber processing plant.
Transportation
Railway and highways. The railway connects Luzsky district with the regional center Kirov in the south and Kotlas of the Arkhangelsk region . The bus service is adjusted with all settlements of the district. The road (73 km) connects the town of Luz with Veliky Ustyug of the Vologda region.

- Alferov, Ivan Prokopevich (March 22, 1897 - August 12, 1979) - Soviet commander, lieutenant-general (1944), Hero of the Soviet Union (June 21, 1944), born in the village of Mysovskaya.

Attractions
- The ancient city of Lalsk , founded by Novgorodians who fled from the repressions of Ivan the Terrible in the XVI century .
- Chapel of Leonid Ustnedumskogo. The chapel was built on the site where on February 17, 1608, the church was erected and consecrated in the name of the Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the temple with the transfer of the icon of the Hodegetria. For the construction of the monastery, the monk decided to drain the swampy place. Digging the moat, he was stung by a serpent, but he remained alive, as was announced to him in a dream. A miracle happened, since then in those places (Luzsky and Podosinovsky districts of the Kirov region) until today, there are no snakes and snakes. After that, "as from an inexhaustible source, healing and miracles flowed from it." To this day, the source built by Leonid Ustvedumsky and lit does not freeze even in the dead of the frost. Many residents and guests of the Luzsky region consider it a sacred duty to bathe in this source for baptism.
