Jubilee (from Latin jubilus , lit. “jubilation”), in the hallelujahs of Gregorian chants - the melismatic chant of the final syllable in the word Alleluia . In addition, the jubilee in hallelujah resumes after the psalm verse (versa).
By troping anniversaries arose (initially - to memorize long non-melodious melodies) a sequence (including in the collection of Notker Liber hymnorum ).
In a broad (non-terminological) sense, jubilation is any extensive melismatic chant in church singing.
