Biography

Born May 7, 1949 in the commune of Co ( -de-France region ).

After studying history and geography, she worked in the city of Le Plessis-Robinson . In 1969 she joined the French Communist Party . Since 1984 he has been a member of the Central Committee of the PCF, since 1994 a member of the Politburo, and in 1997 joined the Party’s National Secretariat.

From 1997 to 2002, she served as Minister of Youth and Sports of France in the government of the socialist Lionel Jospin . In this post, she was responsible for the fight against doping and created a new advisory body - the National Council for Youth Affairs.

In 2001, she took the post of national secretary of the PCF , but in fact the party was led by the tandem (Buffet- Robert U.). After the failure of Robert Yu in the 2002 presidential election , Buffet became the sole chairman of the party. In 2002, she was elected to the National Assembly from the Department of Saint-Saint-Denis . In 2004, topped the list of the Communist Party in regional elections in his native Ile-de-France. In 2005, together with the party, opposed the adoption of the EU constitution .

As the leader of the party, she advocated for the interests of workers, for the provision of free housing for the working class by increasing prices for manufactured goods. Protects feminism .

In 2006, as part of the 2007 presidential election, she took part in a rally of the “anti-liberal wing” in order to reconcile the Communist Party and other left-wing radical movements and nominate a single candidate for president. However, the PCF did not agree to any other candidacy other than Buffett herself. Despite the support of Buffet by the majority of the rally participants, other parties and organizations refused to recognize her as the sole candidate of the left wing. As a result, she had to compete with Olivier Benzanso , representing the largest Trotskyist tendency in the communist movement ( Revolutionary Communist League , section of the Fourth International ), who achieved significantly greater success (1.5 million votes) than Buffet (707.2 thousand votes). In addition, her rivals were other representatives of the left-wing radical movement - Jose Beauvais and Arlette Laguille , but they showed the worst result.

In 2007, in connection with the election, she left the post of chairman [1] . The party formed a directorate composed of: Bridges Dionne, Jean-Francois Hau, Joel Greder, Michel Laurent, Jean-Louis Lemoine. However, in 2009, Buffet again became the sole leader.

In 2009, she condemned the speech of Pope Benedict XVI regarding condoms and the role of the latter in the fight against AIDS , which caused great resonance in France [2] .

At the XXXV Party Congress (June 18-20, 2010 ) she left the post of National Secretary in favor of Pierre Laurent [3]
