Career
Born in Saskatchewan in the Flying Dust Indian tribe, which had about a thousand members. His grandfather was one of the founders of the tribe and for a long time was his leader. As a child, he was a regional boxing champion . He began his professional career in 2000 as a member of the Prince Albert Raiders Western Hockey League club. That season, he also played for Tri-City Americans , participating in 40 fights on ice in 67 matches. After the 2001/02 season, John wanted to end with a big hockey, going to one of the lower Canadian leagues, while working as a security guard in a nightclub. However, before the start of the 2002/03 season, he was offered a contract by the Bakersfield Condors East Coast Hockey League club, where he earned 360 penalty minutes in 57 matches.
The next 3 seasons, Mirasti spent in the lower North American leagues, gaining an average of more than 8 penalty minutes per game. In the summer of 2007, John decided to end his hockey career and began to professionally engage in mixed martial arts . In June, he spent his first fight against Sebastian Gauthier, in which he [ who? ] was knocked out at the end of the first round. However, just before the start of the 2007/08 season, with the assistance of a long-time friend Brandon Sagden, he signed a trial contract for 25 matches with the AHL club Syracuse Crunch . In his new club, Mirasti quickly became a favorite of the public, and the agreement with him was extended. In total, in 182 matches as part of Crunch, John scored 7 (1 + 6) points, as well as 751 minutes of a penalty. December 20, 2009 became a member of one of the greatest, according to many, fights in the history of hockey. He and his rival Jeremy Jablonski inflicted 115 hits on two in a minute [1] .
Season 2010/11 ended again in the lower leagues, after which, together with his friend and distant relative, Jablonski concluded an agreement with the Russian Vityaz [2] . In his first shift as part of the Moscow Region club, he had a fight with Alexander Svitov [3] , immediately after which he accused the KHL players of cowardice [4] . On October 16, in a match against Novokuznetsk Metallurg , he scored his first goal in the KHL [5] . On November 30, in a match against Barys , he twice fought with striker Josh Gratton [6] , for which he subsequently received a two-match disqualification [7] .
In his first match after the disqualification, which took place on December 11 against Riga Dynamo , he tried to start a fight with Latvian hockey players, but the referees did not allow him to do this. However, John was removed until the end of the game and then disqualified for three matches [8] . Returning to the ice on December 11 in a match against Metallurg Magnitogorsk , Mirasti already after a final whistle started a brawl, for which he received a large disciplinary penalty and was again suspended from participating in three matches [9] . On January 26, 2012, in the game with Ak Bars , he again took part in the fight, having received, as a result, a two-match disqualification [10] .
On February 17, in a match against Atlanta he was again removed until the end of the meeting for a fight, for which the next day he was disqualified for 5 matches, which automatically meant that he would miss the remaining games of the season [11] .
Mirasti became known for his behavior on ice - during a fight he always tries to smile [12] .
