Melukhha is a remote country from which the Sumerians conducted maritime trade. Mentioned in many Sumerian and Akkadian texts. The exact location is subject to debate.
Meluhha, Dilmun and Magan
The Sumerian texts constantly mention three countries with which trade was conducted: Magan , Dilmun and Melukh. Magan is usually identified with Oman , according to another opinion - with Ancient Egypt . Dilmun was a commodity distribution center in modern Bahrain . Location Meluhhi not exactly clarified.
Some scientists believe that the word “Meluhha” was the Sumerian name of a region in western India where the Indus Valley civilization was located. Asko Parpola , a Finnish researcher, derives the name of a country from the word “Me-lah-ha” from early Sumerian records. This word he compares with the Dravidian "met-akam" "high abode", "country". In addition, he claims that the Sanskrit word “ mleccha ”, which means “barbarian, stranger”, originated from this word.
Later texts recorded the conclusions of the Assyrian king Ashshurbanipal (668-627 BC) that Melukhha was in Africa somewhere near Egypt, which he had already done when the civilization of the Indus Valley had long since disappeared.
