| Only a few individual mountain ranges, such as Byrranga on the Taimyr Peninsula, Syverma mountains, Verkhoyansk and Kharaulakh ranges, diversify the monotonous surface of the local lowlands. |
- wrote Prince P. A. Kropotkin [1] .
The length of the Kharaulakh Range is 350 km. The heights decrease from south to north from 1200 to 400 m, the maximum reaches 1429 m. The surface is strongly dissected by the valleys of the Lena tributaries . Mountain-tundra vegetation predominates. In the valleys of the western slope - larch woodlands. The ridge is composed of sandstones , mudstones , shales , and in some places effusive rocks .
A brilliant poetic description of the harsh beauties of the Kharaulakh Range was given in his poem “In the Mountains of Kharaulakh [2] ” by encyclopedic geographer P. L. Dravert :
There are few familiar plants
There are no fragrant colors here,
Gray plexus nodes
Squint gloomily at the light.
etc.
