Biography
In 1980, Chiara Badano met at a rally with members of the Catholic movement Fokolyara. In 1981 she joined this organization and began to engage in charitable activities among children and the elderly. From 1981 she corresponded with the founder of Fokolyarov, Chiara Lubich .
In 1985, she moved with her parents to Savona , where she began to study in high school. In 1988, while playing tennis, she felt a sharp pain in her shoulder. In 1989, she was admitted to a hospital, where she was diagnosed with osteosarcoma with metastasis , after which she was treated in Turin, undergoing chemotherapy and radiation therapy. At the hospital, she met Cardinal Giovanni Saldarini . In early 1989, her leg was amputated and in June of the same year she underwent a second spinal laminectomy operation.
Being treated, Chiara Badano actively participated in the activities of the Catholic movement Fokolyarov. She donated all her savings to a friend who goes on a mission to Benin , and makes crafts for sale to charity.
Chiara Badano spent the last months of her life in a recumbent position at her parents' house, continuing to participate in the life of Fokolyarov. At the same time, she closely communicated with the bishop of the Diocese of Aqui, Monsignor Livio Maritano .
In August 1990, Chiara Badano began to prepare for her death. On September 10, 1990, she sent an audio cassette to all members of the Fokolyarov Catholic movement, in which she presented her imminent death as a wedding with Jesus Christ. In this recording, she invited all members of Fokolyarov to her funeral.
Chiara Badano passed away on October 7, 1990.
Glorification
On June 11, 1999, the process of beatification began in the Aquie Diocese, which ended on August 21, 2000. On July 3, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI recognized the heroic virtues of Chiara Badano. On December 19, 2009, the Vatican confirmed the miracle of prayer to Chiara Badano.
On September 25, 2010, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Canonization of Saints, Archbishop Angelo Amato, in the presence of his parents and numerous members of the Fokolyarov, declared Kyar Badano blessed in Sanctuary of the Most Holy Virgin Mary of Divine Love in rome
