Metropolitan David (in the world Euphemia Okropirovich Kachakhidze ; October 15, 1872 - March 19, 1935 , Kutaisi ) - Bishop of the Georgian Orthodox Church , Metropolitan of Batumi and Shemokmed .
Biography
Born on October 15, 1872 in the family of Archpriest of the Imereti Diocese.
In 1895, as a graduate of the seminary with honors, he was recommended to continue his studies at the Kazan Theological Academy .
On October 25, 1897, as a third-year student, the rector of the Academy, Bishop Anthony (Khrapovitsky), he was tonsured a monk with the name David , and on November 21 of that year he was ordained a hierodeacon . May 8, 1898 was ordained a hieromonk .
He graduated from the Kazan Theological Academy in 1899 with a degree of candidate of theology and on August 26 of that year was appointed inspector of schools of the Society for the Restoration of Orthodox Christianity in the Caucasus.
November 10, 1900 was determined as a teacher of the Georgian language at the Telavi Theological College.
From March 10, 1902, he was an assistant superintendent of the Mingrelsky Theological School in Novo-Senaki.
Then he served as the caretaker of theological schools, from October 20, 1903 - Solikamsky, and from November 25 of the same year - Polotsky.
On May 14, 1905 he was appointed rector of the Vitebsk Theological Seminary with the elevation to the rank of archimandrite .
Since August 25, 1906 - rector of the Don Theological Seminary in Novocherkassk .
November 4, 1907 was consecrated bishop of Alaverdi , vicar of the Georgian diocese.
On April 17, 1912, he was appointed bishop of Pyatigorsk , vicar of the Vladikavkaz diocese .
On February 14, 1914, he was transferred to the Vinnitsa vicarate of the Podolsk diocese .
In 1917, he joined the self-proclaimed autocephalous Georgian Orthodox Church, and on October 1 of that year he was identified as its bishop by Urbnisi.
On November 23, 1921, he was entrusted with the administration of the Chkondid and Shemokmed diocese, and on April 29, 1922 he was approved at this department.
According to some reports, in 1923-1924 it was mentioned by the bishop of Batumi.
From March 9, 1924 - again Bishop of Alaverdi, now as the ruling bishop.
On November 1 of the same year, he was entrusted with the administration of the Kutaisi and Gaenat diocese.
According to the decree of the Catholicos Council of November 3, 1926, he was transferred to the Azskur department with the assignment of the interim administration of the Urbnis diocese .
According to the decision of the interim government of the Georgian Church of January 3, 1927, he was left at the Kutaisi and Gaenat chair with the elevation to the rank of metropolitan .
By the decision of the Catholicos Synod of June 6, 1930, he was transferred to the Batumi and Shemokmed departments.
He died suddenly on March 19, 1935 in Kutaisi and was buried on March 23 in the local Peter and Paul Church.
