Gajim ( / ɡɛˈʒiːm / [1] ) - a free cross-platform messenger for the Jabber protocol , written in Python and using GTK + . It runs on Linux , BSD, and Microsoft Windows . It is also possible to install on Mac OS X , however, work in this direction has not yet been completed. [2] The name Gajim is a recursive acronym for "Gajim is a jabber instant messenger" (Gajim is a messenger for Jabber).

Purpose
The goal of the Gajim project is to provide a fully functional and easy to use jabber client.
Gajim Features
- Gajim is available in many languages, including Russian.
- Emoticons, avatars, status messages, support for advanced statuses (mood, activity, song being played).
- Tabs in the conversation window, the ability to combine the contact list window (roster) with the conversation window. Support for metacontacts.
- Support for conferences (with the MUC protocol), invitations, converting chat to a conference, hiding conferences in a roster. Bookmarks for rooms.
- Support for transports.
- File transfer.
- URL grabber, spell checker, reStructuredText text markup support.

Security

Support for English-speaking users is carried out in the conference [3] , Russian-speaking users is carried out in the conference [4] .
Network Features
Because Jabber allows transports to many other services, it can also connect to Yahoo! Messenger , AIM , ICQ and .NET Messenger Service . Other services are available through transport servers, including news via RSS and Atom , sending SMS messages and weather forecasts. See the Jabber article for more. Starting with version 0.13, it became possible to make audio calls using the Jingle protocol and video calls (not yet implemented on Windows).
