Story
In the vastness of liberal and tolerant America, in the heart of the state of Mississippi, gays and lesbians are faced with hatred and violence from friends, family and religious organizations. For representatives of sexual minorities, gay bars here have become a kind of foster family, providing these people with moral support, which they lack so much. The film mentions the murder of Scotty Joe Weaver , interviews with his family members and archived news footage of the time are given. Rev. Fred Phelps, the leader of the Westbury Baptist Church, tries to justify the protests of his followers in an interview, insisting that by agreeing to Scottie's funeral, the local Church of God has served those who "fan the flames of pederastic lust." The owners of gay bars talk about the problems that the LGBT community faces in the vastness of the American South .
