Biography
Born in 1928 in London. In 1935, his mother and he was bestowed by Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich , who proclaimed himself the All-Russian Emperor in exile, the title of His Serene Princess and Prince Romanovsky-Ilyinsky (from the estate Ilyinsky belonging to the Grand Duke Dmitry Pavlovich); the title is hereditary in a direct male line, but the right to name "Serene" belongs only to the eldest of its kind. In 1937, his parents divorced, and he soon ended up with his mother in the United States . He was raised by his mother’s second husband (March 1937 - 1954 ), the Georgian prince and race car driver Dmitry Dzhordzhadze , a former soldier of the Georgian army.
After graduation, he served in the United States Marine Corps , in which he rose to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and then went to the reserve, entered the University of Virginia . He later participated in the Korean War .
“Paul R. Ilyinsky is a typical Romanov, above average height, slender, extremely charming and quick-witted. It clearly shows kinship with all the other Romanovs I met (...) Colonel Ilyinsky eloquently and enthusiastically tells that his mighty bearded son, like two drops of water, looks like the penultimate Tsar Alexander III, ”the researcher writes genus [1] .
Then he was engaged in the family business of his mother. After retiring, he moved to Palm Beach , Florida . He became a member of the Republican Party of the United States , in 1987 he lost the election for mayor of Palm Beach, Even de Morseau-Mori, who was considered a descendant of the Frankish emperor Charlemagne . For 17 years he was a member of the Municipal Council of Palm Beach, and in 1993 - 2000 - the mayor of Palm Beach. In 1998, in an interview with the Russian magazine Ogonyok , he said: “Actually, I wanted to run for state governors, but now this post is occupied by the son of George W. Bush, the ex-president, and his brother - the governor of Texas. And both work great. I see no reason to compete with them, especially since I am also a Republican. ”
Since 1992, after the death of Prince Vladimir Kirillovich, some monarchists considered him the head of the Romanov dynasty, since genealogically he was the eldest of the closest male relatives of Nicholas II , but he himself never made such claims. In 1998, in St. Petersburg, he took part in the burial of the remains of the family of Nicholas II (it should be noted that the Kirillovichs have not recognized the remains so far). He died on February 10, 2004 in his dream home.
