Mayor of Tallinn

The mayor of Tallinn ( est. Tallinna linnapea ) is the highest official of the city ​​of Tallinn . The mayor heads and administers the city council , is responsible for the strategic planning of city development, the budget, relations with state bodies and the government , and cooperation with Estonian universities.

Some powers of the mayor of the city:

  • carries out representative functions
  • has the right to issue orders to guide the city administration and subordinate institutions
  • signs decrees and orders of the city government
  • submits to the City Assembly for approval the structure of the council and candidates for the posts of members of the council (vice-mayors)

The Mayor of Tallinn is accountable in his activities to the Tallinn City Assembly , the representative body of the municipality. Members and fractions of the City Assembly have the right to send the mayor and vice-mayors inquiries regarding their conduct, to which they are obliged to respond in the manner prescribed by the city charter [1] .

The mayor is required to submit a declaration of economic interest in accordance with anti-corruption law.
