Veresellen ( Chuvash. Vör ĕрыlen, Yry ҫĕlen, Vӗri ҫӗlen, vӗriҫlen, deceived, vut ĕĕlen, ĕlenti "ghostly serpent") is a serpent-like demon in Chuvash mythology .
The resettlement was presented in the form of a fire-breathing snake with wings, which, after dark, leaves the ground and flies over the fields, leaving behind a fiery spark that destroys the crops. It sends ailments to cattle, harms the household. Valid until midnight when the first roosters sing. It has two or three heads, a whip-like tail, without bones, its tip has a thickening similar to a club, paws are similar to chicken.
Upon reaching one hundred years, the re-settlement turns into asytah , and becomes able to swallow a person and cattle or send a disease. As time passes, asthah turns into yuhha, and acquires the ability of a werewolf.
It comes from babies who were secretly born and killed by unmarried women, from children who died without baptism, and animals. Women widows may appear in the guise of a man, and men widowers in the guise of a woman.
To protect themselves from settlers, hemp seeds, rose hips, mountain ash were used, it was supposed to protect the house with a circle drawn by an iron object, to shoot from a gun, and the cross and prayer also helped. On the back and under the armpits of the snake, according to legend, there is a hole, the touch of which can destroy him, so the demon evades hugs.
