Shukwani

Shukvani is one of the operational bases of the International Security Assistance Force in the territory of Afghanistan , in Helmand province. The main contingent of the base are representatives of Georgia . The base has an improvised Orthodox Church.

Title

The base is named in honor of Mukhran Shukvani ( 1982 - 2010 ) - the first soldier of the armed forces of Georgia, who died in Afghanistan . Senior Lieutenant Mukhran Shukvani served in the Georgian armed forces since 2006, participated in the peacekeeping mission in Iraq . In Afghanistan, commanded a company of the 31st battalion . On September 5, 2010, he was shot in the head with a sniper during an operation against the Taliban .
