Ronald E. "Ron" Glass ( July 10, 1945 , Evansville , Indiana , USA - November 25, 2016 , Los Angeles , USA ) - American actor . He is best known for his role in the television comedy “Barney Miller” ( 1975 - 1982 ) and as the spiritual shepherd Derrial Buck in the science fiction series “ Firefly ” and in its continuation, the film “ Mission Serenity ”.

Early years

Born in the family of Letia and Crump Glassov. After graduating from the seminary of St. Francis in 1964, he continued his studies at the University of Evansville, where he received a bachelor of arts degree in drama and literature . Years later, he began working on television .

Career

His stage debut took place at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis before moving to Hollywood . Early television appearances included episodes of the Sanford and Son show in 1972, episodes of Everything in the Family in 1973, and episodes of Good Times in 1974. In 1975, he received the role of Ron Harris in the Barney Miller show, which lasted until 1982. The following season, he also starred with Demond Wilson on television in the short remake of Strange Couple, titled New Strange Couple.

In 1992 he was involved in the short comedy "Rhythm and Blues." In 1996, he starred in the role of an alarming history teacher, Ronald Felcher, on the NBC sitcom Mr. Rhodes. In 1999, he appeared in an episode of the comedy “ Friends ” on NBC as Ross Geller’s lawyer , Russell, and in The Cosby Show as father-in-law .

Since then, he has played in dozens of television series, including comedies such as Family Matters and Young Angel, where he played the cousin of God, Rod. He also starred in the TV series Star Trek: Voyager (in the Nightingale episode) and the sci-fi series Firefly "" (2002), in which he played Derrial Buk, a Christian preacher with a mysterious past.
