Separatism in the United States - as a political phenomenon, is directly related to the emergence of the United States as an independent state, which proclaimed independence from Great Britain . Throughout the history of the United States, there is a constant debate on the right to separatism, since such promises are spelled out in the founding document of the United States - the Declaration of Independence . It was the desire for separatism that caused the bloody US Civil War of 1861-1865. At present, the official position of the US Supreme Court is that separatism is an anti-constitutional phenomenon, while the people of the United States retain the right to revolution during which separatism may occur, or secession with appropriate peace agreement. The United States granted independence to its dependent territories ( Palau , Marshall Islands , Micronesia ), the population of which it expressed itself.
There are several major separatist movements in the country. The most influential of them is the Alaska Independence Party , which seeks the withdrawal of the state of Alaska from the United States in order to create its own state. In the northwest United States, some residents favor the formation of a new state - the Republic of Cascadia .
In 2009, Texas Governor Rick Perry spoke like this: We have a wonderful union of states, and there is no reason for its collapse. However, if Washington continues to stick its nose in the affairs of the American people, how to know what will come of it. Texas is a very special place, and our people are independent and freedom-loving . On March 6, 2011, a demonstration demanding state independence was held in front of the Congress building in the state capital of Texas, Austin. The reason for this gathered in the first place called the growing national debt of the United States. It should be recalled that in the period from 1836 to 1845 a separate state of the Republic of Texas already existed.
