History
The idea to create a group consisting of only bass players came to Peter Hook and Gary Mountainfield . They were also soon joined by Andy Rourke . The first recordings were made in July 2004, but the project participants for a long time could not find a suitable candidate for the main vocalist. In the end, they became Gary Briggs of The Strays; besides him, vocal parts were also performed by other musicians, including Tim Burges from The Charlatans . The result of the work, after repeated delays, was the mini-album “Two Worlds Collide” (March 2010) and the album “ It's a Beautiful Life ” (April 2010). Both were digitally published; September 20, 2010 the album was released on CD. However, the promotion of the album and the subsequent activities of the project were ruined by a scandal caused by frank insults against Hook published on September 6, 2010 on Gary Mountainfield's twitter , which accused Hook of not having interest in Freebass and squeezing money on the legacy of Joy Division (Hook is really that traveled around the world playing Joy Division albums as part of his own cover band The Light). Earlier, in August, Andy Rourke left the band. As a result, on September 9, 2010, Freebass formally issued a statement announcing the group’s breakup.
