In the US, the film was banned from being shown as pornographic , but years later, by decision of a federal court, was released [4] , after which it became a kind of example of a work of art, breaking through censorship restrictions and providing “freedom for movie lovers to enjoy the right to choose content” [ 5] . In 2008, the film was selected to participate in the festival of alternative cinema L'Étrange Festival in Leon [6] .

Story

Unlike the novel, the action takes place not in the alarming pre-war Paris, but in the late 1960s in the well-fed and thriving capital of geniuses and their muses, in the wake of the rise of fashion and the hippie worldview. A novice middle-aged writer from the USA, Joy (Valjean) and a school teacher from Great Britain, Carl (Rodda) settled in the Parisian bohemian region - Clichy-la-Garenn . Actually creativity and teaching by them is almost forgotten. Their time is occupied by the search for minimum funds for food and daily new romantic adventures, inevitably culminating in sexual revelry. Inaccessible food is a nightmare abundance of shopping arcades. In reality, women of various ages and races who are generous to caress overshadow everything.

Criticism

  • A replica in TimeOut magazine: “Joy and Carl fuck, thump and eat all the way through Paris to Henry Miller, the last unbeaten line for an American hero ( eng. for the American hero to conquer ) ” [7] .
  • From the review of the magazine "Rock!" Shock! Pop! "To the release of the blu-ray version of the film:" In fact, the film does not reach the level of hardcore , it sometimes appears quite veiled for the film, where one sex scene follows another. <...> Frame construction and composition are very good, it retains the illusion graceful movement throughout its length. <...> High-contrast black and white [film] is changeable in mood, full of special atmosphere and pleasant to watch ” [8] .
  • Review of “Theater Thoughts”, from John Carpenter’s review: “The Quiet Days in Clichy” is not the outstanding entertainment I expected. But I can not deny the value of the film in the story. He helped open more doors to prevent censorship in the movie and stood the test of time. [The company that released the blu-ray version] provided an opportunity for fans of the erotic art house to watch the film in high quality, which is well-known for the memorable melodies of Country Joe MacDonald. ” [5] .
  • “The Quiet Days in Clichy” is a somewhat tattered story, jumping from a journey in search of true love for the completely open exploitation of sexual topics. I think that this is also a way to describe life, but the film requires at least some rhythm. If it were not for the beautiful scenes from the life of Paris and Luxembourg, along with healthy portions of sex and flesh, I do not think that I could hold out the entire film. ” [9] .
