Description
The upper part of the head without protrusions [6] . Protorax is several times longer than its width. Ventrolateral spines of fore tibia vertical or inclined, more or less distant from each other [7] . The largest species is Ischnomantis gigas : a female found in Africa had a record length of 17 cm for mantis [8] .
Classification
The family includes about 1,500 species, or more than half of all mantis known to science [5] [9] . In Europe, 11 genera and 37 species [10] .
