Paula Robison ( Paula Robison , performed for a while under the name Paula Sylvester , Eng. Paula Sylvester , by the name of her husband; born June 8, 1941 , Nashville ) - American flutist and teacher. Niece of playwright Jerome Lawrence [1] .

In 1958 - 1960 studied at the University of Southern California , then continued her education at the Juilliard School under the direction of Julius Baker , she also studied with Marcel Moise at the Marlborough Summer School . At the age of 19, at the invitation of Leonard Bernstein, she performed with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra , a year later she recorded flute solos in Camille Saint-Saens' Animal Carnival . In 1966 she became the first American to win the International Competition of Performers in Geneva .

Paula Robison was the first performer of the works of such composers as Pierre Boulez , Alberto Hinaster , Eliot Carter , William Schumann , John Corigliano , Tiberio Olah , Kate Jarrett , Betsy Zholas ; By her order, Torah composed Takemitsa , Oliver Knussen , Lowell Lieberman (sonatas for flute and piano and flute and guitar) and others. A long-standing creative community connects Paul Robison with composer and conductor Michael Tilson Thomas (Thomas, an openly gay man and his manager Joshua Robison, Paula’s brother, have been partners for more than 30 years); they wrote “Nocturne” for Robison for flute and orchestra of Thomas together they first performed in 2008 with the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra [2] .

Among the main recordings of Robison are albums with sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach , Georg Friedrich Handel , George Philip Telemann .

Since 2005 , professor at the New England Conservatory .
